HVAC Field Technician (Journeyman)
Department: Service Department
Reports To: Field Technician Supervisor
Position Location: Multiple U.S. Locations
SUMMARY
Responsible for retrofit and repair of environmental comfort systems,
utilizing knowledge of air conditioning theory, pipe fitting, and
mechanical layouts.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other
duties may be assigned.
 Responsible for servicing product and equipment on
assigned projects and ensuring customer satisfaction.
 Performs repairs, overhauls, and start-ups of commercial
HVAC systems.
 Uses a variety of hand tools, following blueprints, wiring
diagrams, piping schemes or engineering specifications, to diagnose and
repair units.
 Uses power tools and computers.
 Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses, and repairs systems and
products at customer's location.
 Performs preventative maintenance, site surveys,
replacement, and modifications as needed or requested by customers.
 Prepares for on-site installation and repairs by examining
building layout, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials and
coordinating on-site work, as necessary.
 Inspects vehicles by checking vehicle condition and
literature supplies.
 Maintains vehicles by keeping records of service manuals,
scheduling, and completing repairs and maintenance service.
 Maintains tools and equipment by inspecting for signs of
wear.
 Documents work by completing paperwork on each job and
maintaining files.
 Represents company by serving as a direct customer
contact.
 Determines parts to order for repairs and timeliness of
need.
 Keeps current all Trane products concerning installation,
operation, maintenance, service, and repair.
 Provides technical support to customers.
 Regular travel requirements with occasional overnight
travel.
 Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
May directly supervise HVAC Field Technician Apprentices in the Service
Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with
the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include
training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing
complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or
technical school with a certificate in Heating, Ventilation, and Air
Conditioning or 5 years apprenticeship; and one to two years related
experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Building Automation Systems Technician
Department: Building Automation Services
Reports To: BAS Manager/Project Manager
Position Location: Multiple U.S. Locations
SUMMARY
Responsible for installation, diagnoses, and repair of
environmental-comfort systems, utilizing knowledge of air conditioning
theory, hydronic theory, and modern control techniques.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other
duties may be assigned.
 Responsible for installing and servicing products and
equipment on assigned projects and ensuring customer satisfaction.
 Uses a variety of hand tools, following blueprints or
engineering specifications, to install, diagnose, repair, and program HVAC
equipment.
 Identifies, analyzes, diagnoses and repairs instruments
and products at a customer’s location.
 Performs preventive maintenance, site surveys,
replacement, and modifications as needed or requested by customers.
 Prepares for on-site installation and repairs by examining
building layout, anticipating difficulties, gathering materials and
coordinating on-site work, as necessary.
 Inspects vehicles by checking vehicle condition and
literature supplies.
 Maintains equipment by inspecting for signs of wear
(maladjustment, mis-calibration, malfunction, and drift).
 Documents work by completing paperwork on each job and
maintaining files.
 Represents company by serving as a direct customer
contact.
 Supports HVAC Field Technicians by providing technical
assistance and offering guidance.
 Provides training and follow-up training at a customer’s
site.
 Utilizes project plans to prioritize and schedule work
sequences.
 Determines parts to order for repairs and timeliness of
need.
 Provides technical support to customers.
 Regular travel requirements with occasional overnight
travel.
 Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as required.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or
technical school in HVAC, Computer Science, or Computer Science related
field and two to five years HVAC Journeyman experience; or equivalent
combination of education and experience. Working knowledge of Microsoft
Office products, Autocad, and programming. Must be familiar with Trane and
various other HVAC products. Must have field experience in installation
techniques and servicing/repairing BAS equipment.
